NAoAB Webinar: Fundraising
November 8, 2023 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Host: Bill Phillips, UT
Why are most of us involved in alumni band? To support the current band students. What does that take? Volunteers, time, effort, and mostly MONEY. Fundraising is a constant task to support both your alumni band as well as the collegians, and we have an impressive speaker on the topic to get you ready for Giving Tuesday, holiday and year end donations, and into the spring giving season.
Bill Phillips serves as the Vice President for the National Association of Alumni Bands. Bill was a trumpet player in The University of Texas Longhorn Band and joined the Longhorn Alumni Band (LHAB) since graduation in 1976. He has marched in and performed in every halftime show since joining the LHAB.
As a member of the Longhorn Alumni Band Charitable Fund Board of Trustees, he has been instrumental in significantly increasing the number of scholarships and dollar amounts given to LHB students. He helped create the Longhorn Alumni Band “Legacy Fund”, a fund directly supporting the Longhorn Band and he initiated an annual golf tournament. We're excited to draw from his experience for new ideas on fundraising! We hope to see your smiling face to learn more about how we can support each other and our alma maters.

National Hug a Musician Day
November 13, 2023
National Hug a Musician Day comes around annually on November 13. A lot of work goes into being a musician, and not everyone‘s aware of it. If you know a musician who spends hours a day practicing and hours a night playing at bars, clubs, and concerts, envelop them in a big ol’ loving hug and let them know they’re appreciated.

NAoAB Happy Hour: Reunions, Band Day, Homecoming
December 6, 2023 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Host: Geof Sloan
Was your Homecoming a big success? Was your Band Day a massive flop? Either way, the rest of us want to hear about it! Please join us for an informal Band Day Happy Hour to talk about wins and losses for our Fall events.
The discussion will be led by NAoAB President Geof Sloan, an excellent facilitator and champion of alumni bands. Geof helped conceive the formation of the National Association of Alumni Bands in 2018 at the symposium held in Austin, and since June 2019, he has chaired the organizing committee through the process of writing the bylaws and governing documents that created the organization. His goal is to increase the visibility of alumni bands across the nation supported through the efforts of the association member bands and for NAoAB to be the indispensable advocate for alumni bands. Geof is currently serving in the University of Texas Longhorn Alumni Band (LHAB) as the Past-President and previously served as the Vice President of Communications. He attended both UT-Austin and University of Mississippi where he performed in the percussion sections and played drum-set in both school’s jazz programs.
Our association is here to lift each other up and learn from other experiences, both good and bad. We look forward to hearing from you on your recent events!
